Using Flashlight Online Surveys

How to use Flashlight online surveys “inside” iVocalize
to collect and display participants' responses

a.  Create survey in advance
Create survey in advance using Flashlight Online;  test it to be sure it is easy and useful to see the results from clicking on “data analysis” associated with that survey.

SAMPLE:   Class Size survey:

http://CTLSilhouette.wsu.edu/surveys/ZS49116

b.  Display survey
Make sure that the survey is displayed and “pushed” via browser by “synchronized browser” moderator

c.  Invite participants to respond individually.
They can scroll up/down on their own computers.  Remind them that they MUST click on “send survey” at the very bottom of the survey page to get their responses sent/included.  Explain that they should NOT navigate away from this survey browser page until everyone has completed the survey;

USEFUL TECHNIQUE:  Ask people to put some message in the text box area like “I'm all done” or “What a delightful experience” to indicate they have completed the survey.  Not only does this tell the moderators when all ( or most) are finished, it also breaks the ice about them communicating in the text area.

d.  Display aggregated responses
Whenever finished, if some moderator has opened Flashlight Online to the appropriate “analyze data” Web page for this particular survey on his/her desktop, then that moderator can

  • refresh that window
  • take “synchronize browsing” control
  • click on the whiteboard
  • use the whiteboard “camera” function to display a screen shot of the FLO data browser window in the iVoc whiteboard area
  • OPTIONAL:  save that as a whiteboard “background” for future ref, for possible annotation, discussion
