I've now done about a dozen of these things and the only "bad" one resulted from someone reading a prepared statement.  I think part of the value and charm is precisely the opposite of commercial broadcast style - it is, instead, how obvious that a "real person"  is talking.  Just like real teaching, if the speaker cares about the topic, that can carry through independently of "smoothness". 

As I record more of these myself, I find that I re-record more rarely. A little because I'm more accustomed to the process, but more because I find that leaving in a few grunts, pauses, and grammatical errors is a good thing!

We need your help not only for the recording, but also in preparation.  Could you do the following item in advance?  If you have trouble with any of them, we'll try to help, but some require information or ideas only available from you!
