Gandhi's List
"Seven Blunders of the World"
That Lead to Violence ...Plus

List & Story

Steven W. Gilbert, President, The TLT Group

Purpose:  In any major planning activity, help participants (re)focus on fundamental values that should influence decisions.  More context...

Plan A & Plan B*

  1. (2 minutes)
General intro - Why we are here, what we're going to do.
[Optional:  Distribute printed copies of the 7 Blunders - with or without the 6 additions, with URL for this Web page]

  2. (4 minutes)
Play the 4-min eClip via YouTube   (or choose another version)

  3. (7 minutes)
Think-Pair-Share:  Ask participants about additional “blunders” that would make this list even more meaningful for them personally or for their institution.

  4. (2 minutes)
Summarize any major consensus emerging and suggest how to build on it.

  5. (2 minutes)
    Collect feedback

More detail for Plan A...

*Plan B

Same as above, but in step 2, don't use an eClip;  instead, read the 7 + 1 + 5 Blunders aloud.

 Interactivity: Think-Pair-Share)

1 Minute - Think

4 Minutes - Discuss in small groups

2 Minutes - Report

Ask these small groups to discuss the “blunders” that each person has, individually, thought about adding.  Notice how similar/different the suggested additional “blunders” are from each other.  Try to agree on  one or two “blunders” that you hope others in this meeting could agree to work toward.  Identify one member of your small group to report results.

If time permits - and there are not too many small groups - ask each to report ONE "blunder" that the small group would like others to agree to add to the list.  OR, if the small group cannot make such a recommendation, explain why.
