Orientation, Expectations, Apology?
Our goal is to offer a combination of
written and online resources to enable you to produce your
first, simple Web-accessible "eClip" as quickly and
painlessly as possible. Once you have done so, you
will be much better prepared to set your own realistic
goals, ask useful questions, and specify the additional help
you need to develop eClips and brief hybrid workshops (or
brief hybrid teaching/learning modules) that fit your
educational needs, goals, and resources.
Since it is now common even within the same
college or university for no two people to have exactly the
same configuration of computer hardware, software, and
Internet access, we cannot even attempt to anticipate and
support all the variations. So, it is well beyond the scope
of this workshop and our available staff time to provide
detailed instructions or technical assistance EXCEPT where
indicated below.

Pre-Requisites - Getting Ready
Computer sound. Software.
Internet access. YouTube account and TLT-SWG Channel.
First, we'll help you confirm that you are
able to play YouTube videos on your computer. Then we'll help you obtain and set up your own free YouTube
account and subscribe to the TLT-SWG "channel" so that you
can easily play other relevant YouTube videos from the TLT
Group.

Sample eClips
UNDER DEVELOPMENT
11/26/2007
Playing these eClips will confirm that you can easily
launch, see, and hear a pre-recorded YouTube video of the
kind you'll be producing (this will also confirm that your
Internet access has enough bandwidth and that your
institution or Internet Service Provider has NOT blocked
YouTube). We'll
also provide a set of ... templates or starting places for
your own first eClip.

Putting it together
-
Camcorder
-
YouTube (Click here for more info,
including eClip with screen shots for beginners)
-
Go to YouTube with your
browser and log in. Find and click on "Upload Videos"
-
Follow instructions.
Note that you will probably be asked at least twice to add
more info about your file and to confirm that you really
want to upload it
-
Indicate that you permit
the public to view your video (unless you don't want to -
but if you don't you will have to dig more deeply to find
the URL for the resulting video)
-
When the upload is
finished, copy somewhere safe both the URL for your new
video and the chunk of code for embedding your video in some
other Web page.
-
Check Video
Close everything then
refresh everything then try to find and launch your YouTube
video. See if it looks/sounds OK. If so,
you're done. If not, start over. Even better,
get someone else using a different computer to try to watch
your video. If that person thinks things look, sound
OK, then you're REALLY OK! Probably. If not, try
again or try to fix something.
-
Announce
Let the world know about
your video - send the URL to your friends, colleagues,
relatives...
