What Do We Need?

  • Continue to sharpen the focus and describe the goals and methods, including more specific next steps and tasks.
  • Clearly identify individuals and institutions that want to participate, especially those who can take responsibility for some elements of this initiative.
  • Develop a financial basis to support this exploration and development.
  • Learn and build.

Discussion Questions

  1. Who can help us most?  Who is most likely to do so?  Whose self-interest is best served by this new exploration?
  2. Who can help fund and support this initiative?
  3. What should we do next?
  4. What will we be proud to have achieved in the next 3 months?  Year?  Two years?
  5. What could happen that would embarrass us most?
  6. What could fail to happen that would embarrass us most?

Next Steps

The first event has been scheduled in conjunction with the international ELit 2004 conference hosted for the first time in the US this year by St. John’s University on June 2;  the second will be in conjunction with the Friends Assoc. for Higher Education at George Fox University on June 25;  and a 3rd is scheduled as a featured panel for the League for Innovation in the Community College Conference on Information Technology in Tampa, Florida in early November.  The diversity of these organizations and the enthusiasm of their response to these ideas is both encouraging and a little daunting.

What We Hope for in Specific Events

Show/demonstrate/explain/learn about the confluence of:

  • Building Community, Peace, Social Justice

  • International interconnections

  • Use of the Internet, Web

  • Compelling, encouraging stories ..

  • Options to participate in something more; very specific opportunities, preferably SMALL REALISTIC steps that extend current boundaries, limitations
