l List of
ARQ Modules
These
materials are for use only by institutions that subscribe to
The TLT Group, to participants in TLT Group workshops, and
to invited guests. The TLT Group is a non-profit whose
existence is made possible by their subscription and registration
fees. if your institution is not yet among our subscribers,
we invite you to join us, use these materials, and help us
continue to improve them!
Preparation: If you're not
certain, check to make sure your institution has Flashlight
Online as part of its TLT Group subscription.
Before doing this workshop, you may want to
do the ARQ module about the use of online surveys to gather
information from students. (However, as of this writing,
September 2007, that module is in development.)
Agenda: if time is short, you can do each
bullet point below as a separate activity. The quickest way
is to explain the point and, if you like, show the demo.
It's more effective, however, to then a) demonstrate the
capability yourself and b) let one or two faculty with
Flashlight Online accounts try this activity during the
workshop (e.g., copying a template into a blank survey).
Summary: Some faculty are
already comfortable with authoring with another online
survey system, and may not want to learn to use Flashlight
Online. That's fine. But
Flashlight Online does
have some distinct advantages for ARQ. [There are
two different versions of Flashlight Online. This workshop
refers mainly to
Flashlight Online 1.0,which is fully
operational and which will be available until the end of
2008, and possibly beyond.
Flashlight Online 2.0
is currently in beta test.]

Templates (model
surveys and item banks) developed by Flashlight staff
and other TLT Group subscribers for the purpose of
gathering useful feedback from students. Many ARQ
modules have templates designed specifically for them.
(Because your institution is an active TLT Group
subscriber, you have the right to copy the content of
these templates into other survey systems. But
there's much less time and bother if you use Flashlight
Online.) To see a quick demonstration of how to
find Flashlight Online 1.0 templates,

template (how to copy its questions into your blank
survey,

The ability to adapt surveys
created by other academics who use Flashlight Online.
The system lets authors decide whether surveys and data
will be visible to their colleagues. If you have access,
you can also copy such a survey (or other online form),
and then rewrite it: adding items, rewriting items,
deleting items, etc.
-
Flashlight Current Student
Inventory: For faculty who are studying
patterns of technology-enabled learning over time, or
across different courses, this
huge item bank can also be useful. You can search it
in several ways and easily add items from the inventory
to your survey.
