The
Flashlight Cost Analysis Handbook's
goal: to help you reduce stress on people and budgets by studying how
programs use time, money, and other resources. Cost models
are often used to compare strategies. Models can be especially
helpful at times of sharp growth or budget cuts. Use
this Handbook along with other Flashlight tools to help
improve learning while also controlling costs and stress on
staff.
The Handbook combines:
-
step-by-step
instruction for creating your own models of how a program, service or project uses resources,
-
a wealth of case studies:
-
analyzing costs of different types of instruction at a
distance and on-campus (3 cases).
For a free
sample, click here to see one of those three cases.
-
deciding whether to require students to lease
laptops,
-
gauging the cost-effectiveness of different types of
internal grants to develop new courseware,
-
reducing the costs of on-campus engineering
laboratories, and
-
costs of running a national project to involve working
teachers in using technology.
