FAQ
Flashlight Online 2.0
is nearly ready for roll-out; it is already in use by beta
testers for a variety of innovative surveys.
Beta testing
began in 2007 for survey
authoring, support for communities of inquiry, and student
course evaluation. A major test of the system was done in
late 2007 at Washington State University, using a simple
matrix survey to evaluate over 1000 sections. Current
subscribers can now request beta testing accounts; we are
especially interested in supporting subscribers whose uses
of the system will help us with development.
We
expect to release
Flashlight Online 2.0 for full use by our subscribers by
September 2008, but software development schedules are not
entirely predictable. After that time, upgrades will
be made frequently. Some features in the original specification
will be included in these upgrades (e.g., the ability
to search across institutions for surveys, item banks, and
questions on specific topics).
Once the system has been
released, we will begin one
year transition, during which both Flashlight Online systems
would be available to our
subscribers. Flashlight Online 1.0 will only be converted to “read-only” status
once that transitional year ends; after that time authors at
active subscriber institutions will still be able to see
their old surveys and data, but will no longer be able to
create or administer Flashlight Online 1.0 surveys.
