Metadata in Flashlight Online 2.0 has two
components: a key (i.e., a variable) and a key value.
For example, a key might be "teaching/learning activity" and
a key value might be "lecture." So a survey, or survey
question, with that meta data would deal with lectures. When
the search feature in Flashlight Online is completed, you'll
be able to search for surveys, questions and rubrics, using
keys and values (as well as other text in the survey
properties and the survey itself.)
There is currently no thesaurus for
Flashlight Online 2.0. You're free to invent your own keys
and key-values to organize your work. But, for people
to find one another's work, it might help if they used the
same conventions for creating at least some keys and key
values. Here are some I've begun to use.
My most frequently used key is "Activity"
(short for 'teaching-learning activity). I've used key
values such as 'reflection' (for an eportfolio survey),
'lecture', ....
Another frequently used key is "technology"
with key values such as 'student response system,' 'eportfolio'
....
A third key is 'venue' (where I used the
survey when I first made it) with a key value that mentions
the workshop, class, or other event for which the survey was
designed.
