As Cross and Angelo (CAT #25) observed, it
is sometimes helpful to give students the chance to respond,
perhaps anonymously, to blunt questions about how the course
is going.
Creating Your Own Survey: Using Flashlight
Online, we've copied the example survey from their book,
that asks students to describe whether the faculty member
treats all students in the course with fairness and respect
(answers on a scale from "total failure" to "total
success"), how efficiently the faculty member has organized
the learning process (from "totally inefficient' to "totally
efficient"), and how helpful the faculty member's comments
have been on papers and tests (from "not at all helpful" to
"always very helpful"). We wrote just one question, but you
can write as many as you like using this template (ZS15529)
Here' some introductory text that you could adapt for your
feedback form:
Please respond honestly
and constructively to the questions below by checking the
responses you most agree with and writing comments to
explain your answers. I ask these questions to find out how
I'm doing and to get ideas from you about how to improve the
course for you.
