It's important, whenever possible, to
combine training about how to do productive investigations
with training in how to use tools (e.g. Flashlight Online,
the procedures for modeling uses of money and time described
in the Flashlight Cost Analysis Handbook). Always
look first at the Flashlight Evaluation
Handbook for materials you can use substantively and
as handouts. This web page links to a variety of
educational and training materials that we hope our
subscribers will find useful!
Learning how to conceptualize the difference
between a technology, the activity that relies on that
technology, and the outcome of that activity (triad):
-
Introduction to
"Triads," including a short eClip by Steve Ehrmann
introducing the idea of a 'triad' (key concept in developing
an evaluation using The
Flashlight Approach.)
-
"Cohen" workshop materials. This body of material
begins with an excerpt of an article by Greg Cohen, Cal
State Sacramento. Participants in your workshop
will annotate the article, circling the technologies,
the activities, and the outcomes. Then you can work with
them developing a brief evaluation plan that explores
these triads-in-use.
-
Feedback surveys; pre/post exams for
workshop (Your thoughts? not yet developed?)
Learning about Flashlight Online and how to
use it:
Workshop
introducing the 'seven principles of good practice' and the
TLT Group's "Seven Principles Collection of Ideas for
Teaching and Learning with Technology." This
mini-workshop is useful on its own, or as part of Flashlight
training (because the Flashlight Current Student Inventory
is organized, in part, around the seven principles. Includes
a brief eClip by Steve Ehrmann describing the genesis of our
work applying technology to the implementation of the seven
principles.

materials you'd like us to develop for or with you, or if
you have developed workshop materials you'd be willing to
