Frugal Innovations:
Quandary Mazes and Hot Potato Games for Engaging Students
Wade Maki & Jane Harris of University of North Carolina, Greensboro
with Bonnie Mullinix and Steve Gilbert of the TLT Group
From complex decision mazes to common learning games, online tools can promote development of knowledge, increased facility with fundamentals, and enhancement of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Free or low-cost online tools enable students and instructors to create engaging web-based activities tailored to their courses and studies. As part of our Frugal Innovation Series, this session will explore the learning possibilities of Quandary Mazes and a variety of simple games in the Hot Potatoes suite. We will demonstrate briefly how to create Quandary Mazes and then discuss their uses in various instructional situations. We will also briefly show you how to create games in the Hot Potatoes suite and effectively integrate these into active learning assignments. You will see examples of both tools used in a variety of disciplines. Join us as Wade Maki and Jane Harris of North Carolina University-Greensboro orient us to engaging games.
You are welcome to visit the Primary Presentation Webpage for additional details, information, demonstrations and examples.
