Purpose:  Information Literacy - by almost any name and any definition - is more important than ever for undergraduate education.  Brief Hybrid Workshops (BHWs) can be used to encourage and enable faculty, librarians, IT professionals and other academic leaders to work together to  advance Information Literacy at their own colleges and universities.  BHWs offer a way of building and assembling new kinds of resources based on the 10 Categories offered in ACRL's "Characteristics of Programs of Information Literacy that Illustrate Best Practices: A Guideline" developed by the Best Practices Initiative - and the work of ACRL's Institute for Information Literacy.

This work builds on the excellent Best Practices in Information Literacy Project of ACRL, but is not authorized or approved in any way by ACRL.

 Synchronous (Inter)Activities

Think-Pair-Share

A.  1 Minute - Think about these questions;  jot some notes if you wish.  They will not be collected.

  • Topic
Describe a topic for an eClip that would be especially important at your own institution to encourage and enable improvement of undergraduate information literacy.  Do you or your colleagues find too many undergraduates misusing information resources in some particular way?

  • Features
Describe some elements of that eClip that would be especially important for you and your colleagues (qualifications of the presenter, duration, media, humor, case study examples ...).

  • OPTIONAL:  Other Resources
Describe one or two additional resources that would be especially helpful in your situation and how you might use them.

B.  3-5 Minutes - Discuss your thoughts with one or two people sitting near you.  Were there some interesting similarities among your individual thoughts?  Any interesting differences?  Identify someone in your group willing to report a few of your conclusions.

C.  5-10 Minutes - Report one or two of your findings.  If someone from another group announces one of your findings, don't report that one.
