A Few
Online Purchase Options
Most TLT Group
synchronous online events require:
-
Access to a
computer with a decent Internet connection
-
Web browser less
than 3 years old
-
Basic audio
software and speakers or headset that permits listening to
music or other sounds from that computer
-
Combination of basic audio
software and a microphone that
permits talking through that computer's Internet connection to
others who are connected via computers, headsets, and the
Internet. (Strongly recommended but not
required for most TLT Group Webcasts and online synchronous
sessions. Required for workshops in which each
participant will be expected to speak and be heard via the
Internet or in which each participant will be expected to
create an audio recording.)

Here is a picture of a
typical headset. Many of them are available for less
than $30. Notice that there are two plugs - one goes
into the microphone jack and the other goes into the
earphone/speaker jack on your computer. [Some headsets use
the USB connection instead. As of July, 2008 that option
is usually, but not always, as reliable with as many combinations of computer and
software as the two-plug headsets; however, the audio
quality is sometimes better with a USB headset.]
Look below for links to
stores and brands that offer various models.
