NEWS:
“GATHERINGS”
Describe “Gatherings” at Educause, League, POD in October, 2005. These organizations made a time and place available to the TLT Group during their conferences for informal meetings with our subscribers and friends. Conversations were extremely valuable to the TLT Group, and some of the participants also appreciated and enjoyed the wide-ranging discussions – which included but went well beyond criticizing the shortcomings of the TLT Group website! WE WANT TO SCHEDULE MORE OF THESE!! And think of ways of making them even more useful to the host organizations.
LAUNCHED “CLOTHING THE EMPEROR” ONLINE SERIES
Each is intended to explore a Dangerous Discussions issue and lay the groundwork for an online workshop on the same topic. Each is an interview/discussion and begins with
· Neutral/Constructive Statement of Issue
· Neutral/Constructive Questions
· Polarizing Views
· Sample Results (Both practice and policy)
First topics: Blogs/wikis and Class Size in Online and Hybrid/Blended Courses

II. REVIEW NOTES FROM OCTOBER, 2005 MEETING
1.
MEDIA OPTIONS
We’ll explore using information technology to give Advisory Council
participants a taste of different options as the media in which we conduct
these meetings.
2. TOPICS OF MUTUAL INTEREST
Two topics that might be especially attractive as opportunities for more than one of Advisory Council organizations to work with TLT Group and/or each other: Undergraduate Student Research; Information Literacy
III. MUTUAL INTRODUCTIONS & SYNERGIES
· Each include something about an issue or project or …whatever that is likely to be of MUTUAL interest that your organization would like us to explore together. “Mutual interest” means that this is likely to be of interest to at least two of the organizations and/or constituencies represented.
· New initiatives- getting involved with each other’s initiatives – not limited to the TLT Group; begin to look for synergies among TLT Group cosponsoring organizations.
· Multi-role events, consultations? Regional multi-role events?
· Suggest ways of making this Advisory Council especially convenient and valuable to each of you. Are there new ways we can use information technology and telecommunications to do so?
IV. OLI ISSUES, UPDATES
“Lead Co-Sponsors; Generic Co-Sponsors”; Imminent Events
Generic Co-Sponsors: Publicize events, members get discounts, listed in registration form, etc.
Lead Co-Sponsors: Same as generic PLUS Make special effort to publicize the events; topic and leader/presenters have special significance for members; e.g., POD and Student Course Evaluation online workshop - Mike Theall is co-leader and member POD Core Committee.
Imminent Events: How should we most usefully, conveniently FOR YOU provide info about imminent online sessions, workshops, etc?
V. ONLINE SLIDESHOW/SURVEY COMBOS, GATHERINGS
League CIT Open Source sample – Other ideas?
Future Gatherings?
VI. NEXT STEPS & OTHER
Date of next meeting – Rebecca Kurtz will be contacting you
Review tasks, requests agreed upon and who/how they will be pursued by the TLT Group (and by others who have the inclination and time).

III. OLI, DANGEROUS DISCUSSIONS INITIATIVE, ONLINE SLIDESHOW/SURVEY COMBOS
A. Overall plans for TLT Group’s Online Institute – structure, direction…
We try especially hard to find topics and leaders who can appeal to people who have different professional roles; e.g., our online series about Information Literacy is co-sponsored by ACRL and we try to involve faculty members, academic administrators, instructional design folks, faculty dev. professionals, et al. – along with librarians. So far, for that series, we’ve been most successful with the librarians, but we’re actively trying to broaden that (one of the more successful Information Literacy workshops focuses on approaches that involve collaboration between librarians and people in other roles).
