Cohort Planning

What if we thought of every educational challenge/opportunity as part of a 10 year cohort planning process?

Even a single undergraduate course? Graduate seminar?  Professional development workshop or retreat?

Planning for a cohort of learners?
Planning by a cohort of teachers?

Planning for/by a community of learners and teachers? And administrators and staff?

To what extent can each participant contribute to the planning?
[And, of course, over ten years, to the re-planning]

….

It immediately becomes obvious that NOT every individual participant could possibly participate in exactly the same way over ten years… that NOT every individual would want or need or be able to contribute the same kinds of things in the same ways over ten years…

Open Entry/Exit? How open? What about someone who cannot remain part of the cohort for ten years? Who does not want to? Who does not really accept all important shared expectations, commitments? Who violates some shared expectations, commitments?

Changing roles and relationships… What patterns of changing roles and relationships are unavoidable, possible, desirable? What are the extreme options? Leadership? Excommunication?
