Joan Huntley
T LT
Group Senior Associate Joan S. Huntley has over 20
years experience with innovations in academic
technology in higher education at the University of
Iowa. Early in her career she developed one of the
first academically useful videodiscs and, in the
years since then, she has continued to be a leader.
She directed units at both a central IT and a
collegiate level (College of Business). Her staff
provided faculty training, interactive design and
production, and research into emerging academic
technologies. With early experimentation, she helped
the campus adopt many new technologies including
digital media, WI-FI, Blackboard course management
system, e-books, and mobile broadcasting &
communications. Joan pioneered using Flashlight at
the University of Iowa to assess course
effectiveness and technological need.
She has taught courses in Instructional Design at
the University of Iowa and in Technology for
Education as a visiting professor at California
State University, Monterey Bay. Based on her
experience, Joan served as Chairman of the Board of
the international New Media Centers and on the
Technology Advisory Board for the Des Moines
Community College West Campus. Her Ph.D. is in
Instructional Design from the University of Iowa.
Huntley is now an independent consultant. Dr.
Huntley administered Flashlight at Iowa and provided
faculty support. She can help faculty extend
Flashlight's basic functionality by incorporating
media elements, enhancing the on-screen look and
feel and designing new online surveys. Joan conducts
workshops and provides related services on issues
such as leadership of Teaching, Learning, and
Technology Centers; evaluation
of interactive projects; and research on emerging
academic technologies.
