Current Position

Vice Chancellor for Education and Technology, Metropolitan
Community Colleges, Kansas City, Missouri.  1993 to present.

Serves as the chief academic officer and the chief information technology officer for an urban, four-college community college district enrolling 20,000 credit students each fall semester.

District wide responsibilities include curriculum; academic policy; program development; research; assessment; professional development; occupational education; library resources; instructional computing; television and distance education; network and user services; telecommunications; and computer services, including enterprise wide information system (PeopleSoft) implementation.

Previous Positions

Associate Director, League for Innovation in the Community College, Mission Viejo, California.  1987 to 1993.


Directed the League's major projects on the application of information technology.  Responsibilities include project development, coordination, and evaluation; liaison with corporate partners; and dissemination of information about project activities.

    Edited Leadership Abstracts, a monthly series on major issues facing community college leaders.

    Coordinated various League activities, conferences, and publications, including those related to institutional effectiveness, leadership development, business and industry training, and programs and services for special populations, such as under prepared students and older adults.

Director of Research, Evaluation, and Instructional Development
, Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kansas.  1982-1987.

Supervised the principal research, evaluation, and planning functions of the college;  coordinated needs analysis, outcomes assessment, feasibility studies, and market research.

Designed and supported curriculum development processes.

Provided technical support and consulting services to faculty and community organizations.

Presentations and Consulting

Presents at national and regional conferences and for other community college and higher education audiences on a variety of topics related to instructional applications of information technology, management of information technology resources and infrastructure, and reform and the future of higher education.  Consults on a range of topics related to community college administration, instructional technology, professional development, and organizing and supporting information technology.  Serves regularly as a consultant-evaluator for the North Central Association (NCA), and occasionally for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
