Lev Gonick is Senior Director for Academic Technology Support for the Chancellor's Office of the California State University system. He also continues his role as University Dean for Instructional Technology and Academic Computing at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona California. He has been a pioneer in the integration of digital technology into learning spaces, both real and virtual since 1987. Gonick's Virtual Seminar in Global Political Economy was among the very first international collaborations developed on the internet in 1992. Working each term with up to 30 faculty and 100 students from all over the world Gonick's online seminars continue to lead in the incorporation of technology into innovative teaching practices. Under his leadership, Cal Poly Pomona has taken the lead in the Cal State University's Digital Summer School and in delivering text, audio and educational video to students and the broader public over the Internet. Lev calls this project MediaVision. Lev received his PhD in Political Science from York University in Ontario Canada. He has taught and done presentations on technology and education in Canada, at more than 50 American Universities and Colleges, in West/East and Southern Africa, in the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. He is currently involved in a multi-year Electronic Learning Network project in 5 West African countries and another Electronic Learning Network initiative in Kenya. Lev's current responsibilities include charting the CSU's use of
technology in the support of its academic mission and in particular the meeting the
growing needs of traditional and non-traditional learners. |
