2:15pm  Welcome, introductions

2:20pm   Steve Gilbert - Play RoboDemo/Presenter audio-narrated slideshow prepared by advance phone interview of <Someone local?  National?> and on site photos, recordings of local folks made day before event - emphasis on roles of local "Compassionate Pioneers" and related local professional development activities, resources

Give brief tour of Tailored Website, explain how it will continue to be available for at least several months

2:35pm  Perspective

  • It Ain't Broke - It never was. Can't "fix it";  can improve it - forever!

  • Historical

    • Long ago (pre-1980): Options for teaching and learning were very few.  

    • Not so long ago (1980s): Options for teaching and learning were still very few.

    • More recently (mid-1990s to present):  Options for teaching and learning are many and increasing rapidly.

  • Why Bother?  From Access to Community?- new "Dashboard Dial" slides

  • New challenges: Move forward without adding time or money!  How?

  • Incremental Steps - LTAs  EMPHASIZE THOSE THAT SAVE SOMEONE TIME!

  • Show LTA of the Week site;  Demo one or two??? [time permitting]

  • From Increments to Transformations
    Even with severely limited time, money.  Focus on small next steps likely to succeed.  TLTG/USF model:  Learn options, try a change, assess/improve change, help colleagues;  repeat/expand!

2:50pm  Small group discussions (Incremental and Transformative Change): 

<NOTE:  MAY BE UNREALISTIC TO DO 2 questions OF THIS MAGNITUDE;  MAYBE ASK HALF OF AUDIENCE TO DO ONE AND OTHER HALF TO DO OTHER, THEN REPORT RESULTS>

Explain why we're doing this (want to ENGAGE them, want to learn from them, focus our follow-up efforts)

1.  What are 1 or 2 of the smallest useful changes you can make soonest to move toward improving teaching and learning with technology consistent with host institution's goals (e.g., more inquiry-based learning)?  [For those who are not teachers, or who need a different slant,  If some of the information technology resources now available had been available when you were a high school or college student, what would have been 1 or 2 of the smallest useful changes that could have been made to improve your success as a student?]

2.  Think about host institution's 10-year goals [what are they?  where are they?].  Describe 1 or 2 characteristics of changes that you would consider transformational, feasible, and worthwhile!

*      Explore how to "Build Community & Connections" at local institution -  beginning with local professional development cohort?

*      Announce an online session 3 to 5 weeks later TO WHICH ALL PRESENT PARTICIPANTS Are INVITED - already scheduled, with topic/function and role(s) for LOCAL cohort participants. 

*      Describe TLTG'S BCCOOC series, options for participation.

*      Announce a LATER face-to-face event hosted by LOCAL INSTITUTION OR LOCAL TLT CENTER OR LOCAL TLT ROUNDTABLE

Use New Options, Tools, Hopes Realistically (time, effort, commitment) to:

  • Personalize Education

  • Increase Engagement

  • Improve Teaching/Learning with Technology

  • Build Community and Connections Online and On Campus

    • List of questions to ask, and re-ask about "community"

    • List of old/new taboos to be broken

  • Need to build community locally and globally now more than ever
