Possible Goals for Presentations by Steve Gilbert

for 1 to 2 hour session

<Too much, too many!  Which are most important to you?>

1.   Introduce variety of resources avail from Website developed for <host institution/event>

2. Demonstrate ease of using new tools to develop online multimedia interview/slideshow

3. Support role of local "Compassionate Pioneers"

4. Provide perspective:  2 minute history of educational uses of information technology

   • Triple Burden:  keeping up in their own disciplines;  keeping up with new instructional options;  and for keeping up with new kinds of information resources!

   • New tools and opportunities to provide new kinds of professional development that might enable more of our teachers and support personnel to make more effective educational uses of information technology

5. .Explain implications:  Takes time!  Need MORE LIFELONG Professional Development, Information Literacy

6. Encourage participation, realistic incremental change, reduce fear: 
   A.  Examine "Why Bother?" potential and pressures for info tech to be used to support increased ENGAGEMENT (dangers of over-use of "delivery model")
   B.  Offer realistic path:  From Increments to Transformations;  even with severely limited time, money. 
   C.  Focus on small next steps likely to succeed.

         - For a cohort of faculty members who have already demonstrated some inclination to use info. tech. to improve their own teaching and their students' learning AND to help colleagues
         - Cohort members:  Learn options, Try a change, Assess/improve change, Help colleagues;  Repeat/expand!
