STA+ Program

Jump-Starting
the Building (or Upgrading) of
an STA Program at your institution

The TLT Group can provide a Complete Assessment and/or do a Full Implementation.

Complete Assessment

  • We can come to your institution for a day or two (depending on the size and complexity of the institution) and do a complete assessment of your IT support services and provide you with recommendations on how to create or upgrade your STA program.

Full Implementation

  • We can provide a consultant that will spend significant time at your institution in order to quickly and efficiently jump-start or upgrade an STA Plus. We would work closely with the responsible on-campus IT Staff person and assure that he or she is prepared to fully manage the program when we leave.
  • We can provide your institution with templates and samples of the many policies, procedures, and related documentation such as job descriptions, hiring practices and standards; STA organization charts and models; STA training guides and model training programs; as well as budgets, contracts, and procedures for the operational and management requirements of the program.
  • We can provide the necessary resources to plan and offer STA training.

In other words we can do as much, or as little as you wish; for as short a time, or as long a time, as you need us.

To have a successful Program your institution needs to provide:

  • Senior Administrator advocacy (e.g., CAO, CIO, President).
  • An IT Staff person who will implement and mange the program (typically a partial FTE is required since the students are largely self-managed).

Trained STAs can be working on campus in one semester.

A TLT Group consultant can come to your institution during one semester and have an initial team of STAs trained and working at the beginning of the next semester. The planning (processes, procedures, budgets, contracts, etc.) and hiring takes place during the first semester, a major training effort occurs during the summer or winter break, and the STA are on duty at the beginning of the next semester.

Funding is critical, we want to keep costs down.

This program will help an institution improve the quality and quantity of technical and instructional support more cost-effectively than any alternative we know about. Funds can be found by either reallocating current budgets or by making budget increases smaller than they would be required otherwise to achieve the same goals. At the same time this program will reduce the ever-increasing workload of current IT staff, freeing them in part to do the more technically challenging and professionally sophisticated work (and not eliminate jobs).

How can the TLT Group offer this service?

The TLT Group has an experienced consultant on staff that has set up STA type programs at institutions around the country. In addition we have a cadre of consultants that we will call on as necessary that are currently running nationally recognized STA programs at their institution.
