Thanks to
institutional
subscribers to The TLT Group, the Flashlight Program is able to offer this free
online publication -- F-LIGHT. Each issue briefly describes one
or two studies related to educational uses of technology --
studies that:
- asked a useful question, a question you might want to
ask, too; and
- produced findings valuable enough to justify the
effort of doing the study.
Contents of this issue:
-
Using Portfolios to Assess Information
Literacy: Pam Schneider of Fairleigh Dickinson University
summaries how a capstone course, student projects, and rubrics
are used to assess the development of information literacy
skills.
-
Building a Culture
of Assessment at the University of South Carolina. USC
is one of the largest users of Flashlight Online.
Like other institutions we've profiled earlier, people at
this University have worked patiently for years to encourage
and help faculty and staff use data to improve practice. Today
USC is one of the biggest users of Flashlight Online in the
world, one indicator of their use of data. This case
study outlines their strategies, briefly outlines a few
typical studies, and recounts some of the interesting history
that led from their start in 1998 to today.
