I. Studying Educational Uses of Technology

• Examples of study designs that can directly guide improvement of outcomes, with examples using Flashlight Online. Examples all deal with online learning, but the study designs can be applied to any educational use of technology (click here for definitions of 'technology').(click here for more on Flashlight Online.)
• Why it's important to study more than just outcomes, especially if technology is in the picture: "What Outcomes Assessment Misses (article)" and "What is a Triad? (narrated slideshow)"
• Flashlight Evaluation Handbook (subscribers only; username and password required from your local contact)
• Tutorial for faculty on designing studies (especially for faculty in math, science, engineering and faculty) - developed by Flashlight in conjunction with the National Institute for Science Education at the University of Wisconsin.
• Slides and handouts for workshops: subscribers should contact Flashlight staff at flashlight@tltgroup.org for assistance; we're continually improving our approaches to training so get the latest. We also hope you'll share your materials with us. We put some of the best ideas on our outreach page to help local contacts reach and work with staff and students at their institutions. 
• Training: Flashlight staff and Senior Associates (experienced users from subscriber institutions) offer training. We prefer hybrid approaches that blend face-to-face and online training (synchronous and asynchronous). We also prefer 'learning by doing' -- helping people do studies, and learn to do studies, simultaneously. • Flashlight's BETA Project is developing tools and training materials to help faculty gather student input to improve teaching, so watch for BETA's online workshops and materials.
