Many institutions have used The TLT Group and its Flashlight Program to support major projects, providing training, invited talks, webcasts, evaluation support, and national/international outreach and dissemination, for example. The TLT Group can also work with you to design a grant proposal and budget for project work or more sustained support. Here are just a few examples of our past work on faculty support/development and strategic planning; most of them also involve the boundary-crossing that is a hallmark of TLT Group work. (You can also see examples of our past work on education for assessment, program evaluation, or help with self-studies.)

  • Auburn University wanted to take a fresh look at the effectiveness of its faculty support services. The TLT Group facilitated a series of faculty focus groups, giving program leaders a whole new perspective.  (more detail).

  • Butler University in Indianapolis made many classrooms high tech at once, creating the need for a crash program of faculty preparation. The goal was not just for faculty to learn to use new kinds of equipment but rather to help large numbers of faculty from different disciplines, with very different teaching styles, to take advantage of new facilities to improve teaching and learning. The strategy: The TLT Group worked with a group of peer mentors, drawn from the faculty, to develop workshop modules that the peer mentors could then use in small group workshops with their colleagues.

  • George Washington University needed to expand its faculty development and support services; The TLT Group provided consulting help as they created a three year strategic plan.

  • Help develop strategies to improve teaching and learning with technology, including helping create a new leadership team involving the CIO and faculty at Shepherdstown University.

  • Developing needs assessment tools for a Presidential planning task force at Colorado College.

  • Facilitating multi-campus planning for a computers and information systems curriculum at Pima College

  • Support a statewide task force of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) that is considering improvements in educational uses of technology.

  • Work with eleven historically black colleges and universities in the Instructional Technology Assistance Project (ITAP), a multi-year effort to help them use technology to improve the quality of their undergraduate programs.

  • Supported Oakland Community College for five years to use technology to improve teaching across the district.

  • Working the National Institute for Science Education at the University of Wisconsin develop a web site to help faculty across the country use technology to improve their teaching

  • Working with EDUCAUSE's National Learning Infrastructure Initiative (now EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative) to develop a workshop, online course and web site on Transformative Assessment and another workshop on Learning Space Design.

  • Helping over 75 Chief Academic Officers at institutions in the American Association of State Colleges get the information they needed to make decisions about whether their institutions should develop portals

  • Developing teaching-learning-technology tracks for national conferences run by several associations

  • Providing evaluation support for the Open Knowledge Initiative, led by MIT and Stanford, to help develop a more open learning management environment and for the five-year Visible Knowledge Project on the scholarship of teaching with technology in the humanities and social sciences.

The TLT Group carries out such projects through the efforts of its staff and senior consultants. To find out how The TLT Group can help you, please contact online@tltgroup.org or call 301-270-8312.
