Objective 1:
Test and disseminate a “visible knowledge mapping” strategy for
developing institutional consensus about “good practices in
teaching and learning” (a consensus that will then be used to
design local course evaluation procedures that reflect
institutional and programmatic values.)
Objective 2:
Engaging students in their role as evaluators.
Objective 3:
Giving administrators tools and information to encourage the
formative use of course evaluations, while still providing
information that can be used for personnel decisions.
Objective 4:
Developing new, web-based technologies that make administration
of a multi-tiered evaluation process possible.
Objective 5:
Providing item banks of validated questions to make development
of multi-tiered surveys easier.
Objective 6:
Disseminating lessons learned through an online community of
practice.
In meeting these six objectives, this project
will play a major role in encouraging and supporting formative
evaluation of teaching and learning, and will encourage
institutions to focus on asking questions that reinforce “best
practices” in teaching and learning that can be mapped to
desired learning outcomes. It is our belief that
university/college teaching will be improved when a campus
“culture of assessment” around teaching and learning exists that
is clearly linked to the achievement of improved learning
outcomes. Each of the objectives of the project is designed to
achieve this goal. |
